An attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, in Owo town, Owo Local Government Area, Ondo State, is said to have murdered around 40 people.

The event occurred at a chapel less than 200 meters from the Palace of Olowo of Owo, according to reports.

Many people were brought in dead on Sunday, according to workers at the Federal Medical Centre in Owo.

The attack took place during a Sunday church.

Over 50 individuals were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where the casualties were taken, according to one of the health personnel on duty.

"They're still bringing patients to the hospital," he continued, "some of whom have been proven dead and others who are still breathing." But, for the time being, I can't say how many people have died."

"The church that was assaulted was in the back of the palace, and we're still puzzled as to how gunmen could attack the town's center," he said. This is incredible.

Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the event but said the command has yet to determine the cause.

"The CP (Commissioner of Police) is en route to the scene to investigate the event. We've heard a lot of different things about it, but I'll get back to you."
